Osaka Garden in Bloom, April 16, 2026

I wanted to share with folks what’s in bloom in the garden, so people know when it’s good to visit. I thought posts here would work rather than the substack where I think there are more varied subscribers. I’m going to make an Osaka Garden page with the more permanent background information I’ve collected. I know a few have subscribed here but I’ll put links elsewhere.

Weeping Cherries (evergreens are Jack Pine)

Pink weeping cherries outside the Osaka Gate at the garden. People standing in line. Tall Jack Pines in the background.
Weeping cherries by the Katsuga Lantern that is tall and dates from 1893 World's Fair Japanese Teahouse across the lagoon.

Azaleas

The azaleas are trimmed into mounds like rolling hills. These are the bright purple ones just inside the gate.
The early light pink azaleas outside the fence by the gate.

Hawthorn–just starting. All the sculpted flat topped trees along fence.

Sculpted flat top 10 foot hawthorn in flower inside the fence.

Hellebores (and Paperbark Maple sculpted by a beaver). Many more hellebores are along the loop trail south of the pavilion.

On the walk in from the gate toward the lagoon. On the left there is a patch of hellebores.

Redbud (Native)

Tree with red blossoms along all the twigs. Just opening. It's much showier already.

Star Magnolia and Siberian Squill

West of the pavilion the bright white flowering shrub.
The trimmed mounded shrub by the lagoon, next to the ninebark that hasn't bloomed yet.
